Earlier this year the Mark Benevolent Fund announced donations to hospices in England and Wales totalling £1.25 million. This major capital grant from the MBF was made in recognition of a lifetime of service and dedication to the Crown and the nation by His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Each Mark Lodge was allocated £1,000 and asked to nominate which hospice was to receive that part of the total donation.
On 26th August four masked Somerset Brethren arrived at Children's Hospice South West to present two cheques. The first for £5,000 was from five Somerset Lodges who allocated their £1,000 MBF grants to CHSW. The second for £28,000 was the total amount the charity has received from the MBF via Lodges in the Provinces of Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire and Somerset. Provincial Grand Master Phil Voisey along with W Brothers Marshall Westley, Steve McNaughton and James Tonkin present cheques to Paul Mundy from the charity Children's Hospice South West at the Charlton Farm Hospice, Wraxall, Somerset.
Bro Paul Marshall of the Carnarvon Lodge of MMM No 119 is a volunteer Bloodbike rider. He is on call one weekend in four giving his time and motorcycling expertise freely to this great organisation. Paul emailed us to say that this weekend he was riding a BMW bike that was sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons! Riding this weekend Paul will be supporting the Great Western Air Ambulance and the Wales Air Ambulance, two other charities that are close to the hearts of Freemasons. We hope the weather wasn't too wet Paul!
