A New Commander at Yatton RAM
First and foremost, congratulations to now Worshipful Commander, Rowland (Rolly) Ansell, who was installed as such on Thursday 31st October at the Yatton Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners.
The evening started on a high, when, and as a complete surprise, his big brother Peter, who had re-joined the lodge just minutes beforehand, had the pleasure of presenting Rolly to the installing commander.
There are not enough superlative to describe what happened next, but well-rehearsed, pleasing, enjoyable, satisfying, and delightful only begin to explain the manner in which the installing commander, Mike Platts, went on to install his successor. Mike, who is now well into his 80s was an inspiration,. He was a little out of sorts, but absolutely would not let this get in the way of his delivering the installation ritual, which he did with faultless aplomb.
Mike was of course ably assisted by his team, along with some stand in’s (after all it was an installation), and we were all very pleased to see Worshipful Commander Ian McDonald remain in the room for the inner working…Ian has been director of ceremonies for Yatton RAM for some time, but was only installed as a commander around two weeks beforehand.
The lodge was also pleased and honoured to receive the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Anthony Guthrie, who in his usual relaxed manner put everyone at ease from the start.
Following the meeting, Worshipful Commander Rolly was received into the dining hall to much applause, whereupon we had some delicious food, good wine, great company, and very enjoyable conversation.
If only every meeting was as good 🙂
Congratulations again Worshipful Commander Rolly Ansell.
Please do have an interesting, enjoyable and successful year
